CODE OF CONDUCT

The code applies to all people associated with our Series.  The VDHS wishes to operate in a non-discriminatory environment where people show respect for others and their property. All Attendees must respect the countryside and ride only on the official course. 

EVENT RULES
  • All Attendees must avoid polluting the area and must not leave any waste or litter. 

  • No glass containers of any kind are permitted on or near the race course.

  • Participants and Spectators must only park in official parking areas – Park with consideration for others

  • Do NOT block access roads or tracks – this can prevent or delay emergency access

  • No Stopping, dropping off, pick-up, parking or turning in shuttle staging or turning areas- this can cause significant delays in race operations and can prevent or delay emergency access

  • All under 18 participants must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the event.

  • Self Shuttling Self shuttling throughout the duration of the event will result in disqualification and no refund

PRACTICE RULES
  • Registration: Only registered participants are permitted on the course during an event.

  • Number Plates: All riders must have an event-specific number plate attached to their bike at all times while on the course.

  • No Practice During Races: Practicing on the course is not allowed while a race is in progress.

  • Marshal Instructions: Follow all instructions from track Marshals, including flag signals. Yellow flags mean SLOW DOWN, and red flags mean STOP. Passing a red flag may lead to disqualification.

  • Compulsory Practice Run: Riders must complete a compulsory practice run on race day before their qualifying or race run.

  • Marking Runs: After completing a run during compulsory practice, a mark or sticker will be placed on the rider’s number plate to indicate completion.

  • Queue Jumping: Please line up for shuttles considerately at the back of the line, you will all get plenty of runs in and queue jumping will not be tolerated, repeat offenders will be disqualified

TRACK WALK RECOMMENDATION
  • It is strongly recommended that participants complete a track walk before their first practice run. This allows riders to:

  • Assess the Course: Determine which lines are suitable for their skill level.

  • Familiarise Themselves: Gain awareness of the track’s features and conditions.

  • Prepare Mentally: Enhance their understanding of what to expect during their practice and race runs.

RACE RULES
  • Complete the Course: Riders must cover the entire race distance or as directed by Race Officials.

  • Finish with Bike: Riders must finish with their bicycle in hand.

  • Finish Line Definition: The finish is determined when the leading edge of the front wheel crosses the vertical plane of the finish line marked on the course surface.

  • Course Responsibility: Riders are responsible for following the official marked course.

  • No Shortcuts: Riders must not take shortcuts, omit course features, or gain any unfair advantage. Doing so will lead to Disqualification

  • Returning to Course: If a rider exits the course, they must re-enter at the exact point of exit. The Chief Commissaire will decide if any advantage was gained if the return point differs from the exit if an advantage was gained the rider will be disqualified

  • Marshal Instructions: Follow all instructions from track Marshals, including red flags, which signal to STOP. Passing a red flag may result in disqualification. Note: Yellow flags are not used during racing.

  • Sportsmanship: Riders must act in a sportsmanlike manner, allowing faster riders to overtake without obstruction and showing courtesy to those still riding.

  • Course Conduct: Any walking or running on the course should be done with consideration for riders still on their bikes.

  • Bike Changes: Riders may only change their bike between races.

  • Behaviour: Riders must avoid offensive or abusive language, un-sportsmanlike behaviour, disrespect towards officials, and disregard for race regulations.

LIABILITY WAIVER

Downhill mountain biking is a high-risk sport with inherent dangers. By attending, spectating, or participating in the VDHS, you acknowledge and accept that you do so entirely at your own risk.  The VDHS is a state-level competition and serves as a pathway to national, international, and World Cup events. It is not designed for beginners or novices. As such, the tracks will include sections that are technically challenging and potentially dangerous. Alternative “B” lines are available. It is incumbent upon each rider to ensure that they are physically, mentally, and technically capable of navigating the tracks.  The VDHS, its organisers, Hosting Clubs, race officials, volunteers, sponsors, and affiliates accept no responsibility for any injuries or damage to personal property, however caused, including but not limited to bikes and personal vehicles. This disclaimer applies to all activities associated with the event, including practice sessions, races, and shuttles.  These are the rules, IF YOU DO NOT ACCEPT THEM, DO NOT ENTER THE SERIES. Participants or supporters engaging in discussions contrary to this disclaimer and the following rules may face disqualification from the entire series.
